Newsies and Newsies Jr Eligibility FAQs

We know there will be a lot of questions surrounding the updates to our Spring Musical and the addition of our Junior production, and how it interacts with the HIU show, so we’ve created a list of questions you might have. If you have questions that are not answered here, please feel free to reach out to us at info@speroppa.org.

Q: When are auditions for the full show?

A: Jan. 24 - 26

Q: When are auditions for the junior show?

A: Jan. 31 - Feb. 2

Q: I have participated in a Fall and/or Spring show with Spero PPA, but I am under 14. Can I audition for the full show?

A: Yes!

Q: I am under 14, but I have participated in Summer Camp and/or classes and/or voice lessons and/or a workshop with Spero PPA. Can I audition for the full show?

A: No, but you are eligible for the Jr. show!

Q: Can I audition for both shows?

A: Yes, but there are some conditions. If you audition for the full show and are placed in the cast, but you are disappointed in your role, you may still audition for the junior show, but you would need to forfeit your spot in the full show. There is no “wait and see what happens”. For instance, if you audition for the full show and get placed in the ensemble, and you think you’d rather try for a larger role in the junior show, you will need to opt out of the full show before you audition for the junior show. In other words, you can’t hold on to your role in the full show until you see what role you get in the junior show. Yes, this means we will have the cast list for the full show published prior to the Jr. auditions and you may have to make a quick decision about which cast you would prefer to participate in. If you audition for the full show and do not make the cast, you are welcome to audition and try for a spot in the Jr. show.

Q: Can I be in both casts?

A: No. You cannot do BOTH the full and junior shows.

Q: If I audition for the full show, do I have to do another audition for the junior show?

A: You will not need to repeat a vocal audition, but you will need to do the dance audition and be available for callbacks for the junior show.

Q: What if I give up an ensemble role in the full show in order to audition for the junior show, but don’t get the part I want?

A: You need to be prepared for that possibility.  Once you decide to audition for the junior show, you forfeit your role in the full show, regardless of what role you might get in the junior show.

Q: How many people will be cast in the junior show? Will you be making cuts?

A: The maximum number of people who will be cast in the junior show is 65, so it is possible we will also make cuts from the Jr. show.
